  • Learning and Engagement Volunteer - help shape young minds and enthuse them to learn outside the classroom

Details of the opportunity


Location/Facility: Based at Myddelton House (volunteering opportunities throughout the 26 miles of Lee Valley Regional Park)


Working with: Learning and Engagement Officers/Staff


Time Commitment: Flexible


Purpose: To assist in the delivery of outdoor learning activities to schools, special educational needs, community and youth groups.


Details of Role

  • To assist activities as part of the Lee Valley Regional Park Learning and Engagement (L&E) team’s school/college/youth/special needs/community sessions, events and activities throughout the 10,000 acre Lee Valley Regional Park. If you wish to volunteer only at certain sites this can be accommodated.

  • Among other activities this will include:

  • Providing encouragement and support to predominately young people taking part in sessions/events

  • Helping prepare, set up/take down equipment and resources for activities/ events.

  • Providing extra adult supervision

  • Supporting small group work as part of a larger session led by L&E staff.

  • Regular hours/days cannot be guaranteed due to the nature of bookings.

Personal Attributes

  • Approachable and friendly manner

  • Keen to work with young people from different backgrounds and support people with special educational needs

  • Knowledge/enthusiasm to engage in activity in the green spaces of Lee Valley Park

  • Ability to perform light manual work, i.e. lifting and carrying resources/equipment

General

  • To carry out tasks in line with the Authority’s and department’s policies and procedures including but not limited to:

  • The Authority’s Health and Safety Policy

  • The Authority’s Safeguarding Policy and Safeguarding Procedure

  • The Authority’s Volunteer Policy

  • Lone working procedure

  • Manual Handling

  • Volunteer induction pack rules and regulations

  • Undertake induction and training and development consistent with your role. As part of the strict Health and Safety requirements by Learning and Engagement to provide a high quality and safe service to our customers, certain mandatory Health and Safety training is required to undertake this volunteering role. We expect our volunteers to attend such training in person or via e-learning provided by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority or third-party providers on their behalf. Failure to do so may result in suspension of volunteering until the training is complete.

  • Enhanced DBS check is necessary for this role.
